Finance Data Platform Build

Finance function scaled to 3× original size - without a proportional increase in manual overhead

A fast-growing financial services group's data infrastructure had not kept pace with the complexity of the business. I designed and built an Azure-based finance data platform - capable of ingesting, transforming, and surfacing data from across the group - alongside a suite of operational automations.

Month-End Close Management System

Growth from 400 tasks to nearly 1,000 per month - managed with no additional coordination overhead

Thirty accountants were managing their month-end close through a single shared Excel spreadsheet, causing editing conflicts and forcing the Group Financial Controller to manually coordinate all teams. I built a purpose-built close management system using Jira, Confluence, SQL Server, and PowerBI.

Bank Transaction Data Automation

2 full days per week automated - approximately 100 days of staff time saved annually

A single employee was spending two full days each week manually downloading and collating data from 40+ bank accounts across 7 banking relationships in 3 countries. I built an automated pipeline - using each bank's existing CSV exports - that cut the task to under a minute while feeding data directly into the ERP.

Automated Journal Loading & Validation

8–12 hour overnight journal runs → under 5 minutes - and month-end close risk eliminated

Three business units were leaving journals to run overnight on staff laptops via the native D365 Excel integration, with limited feedback when loads failed. I designed an Azure-based pipeline that ingested, validated, and posted journals in under five minutes - with actionable Teams notifications throughout.

NetSuite GL Implementation

Delivered in under 6 months - zero disruption to live finance operations or dependent processes

A globally operating trading firm needed to replace its legacy general ledger across multiple currencies and entities, with no appetite for disruption to a demanding close cycle. I led the full NetSuite implementation from business case to go-live, including chart of accounts rationalisation from ~800 to under 400 accounts.

Board Pack Turnaround & Reporting Uplift

Board pack production time reduced from 15 days to 3 - an 80% reduction

A globally operating trading firm's monthly board pack took 15 days to produce. Through systematic dependency mapping, process automation, and PowerBI dashboards, I reduced production time by 80% while also introducing rolling forecasting anchored to the firm's contracts database.

Finance & Middle Office Automation Programme

Month-end 5 days → 2; daily P&L 6 hrs → 1 hr; quarterly BAS 5 days → half a day

A global HFT firm's finance and middle office functions were running heavily manual processes across close, daily P&L production, and BAS reporting. I led a systematic automation programme using Python, VBA, and QlikView - cutting all three - and built a daily consolidated management report from scratch.

GST/BAS Remediation & Seven-Figure Tax Reclaim

Seven-figure sum reclaimed from the ATO - identified independently through proactive review

During a broader BAS process review, I identified that GST had been treated incorrectly across four years of returns - an error undetected by auditors and prior advisers. Working with PwC, I initiated a full reanalysis and successfully recovered a seven-figure sum in overpaid tax.

Oracle EBS R12 Implementation

ERP delivered on time; Hyperion Planning materially reduced budget and forecasting manual effort

The UK branch of a major South African bank - operating across treasury, fixed income trading, and corporate advisory - needed to replace its legacy financial systems with Oracle EBS R12. I led the finance workstream from requirements through to go-live, then deployed Hyperion Planning to transform the planning cycle.
